Internships play a vital role in preparing an individual for jobs in the industry. They are beneficial because they help develop your professional aptitude, strengthen personal character, and provide a greater door to opportunity. By investing in internships, you’ll give yourself the broadest spectrum of opportunities when seeking and applying for a job after college. Hence, this summer, I utilized my time working as a Technology Intern for MindHug.

About MindHug

MindHug is a UCL (University College London) hatched mental prosperity startup with a dream to bring satisfaction and prosperity for all. It was the individual difficulties and ensuing exploration by our organizer, Raj, that planted the seeds to MindHug.

The organization centers around the issue of representation and college students' burnout, depression, and anxiety. Their main goal is to furnish people with information and access to a more extensive decision of gainful elective treatments and exercises for mental prosperity. These incorporate experiential and expressive art, music, sound treatments, and care. To summarize, the organization mainly focuses on utilizing data and help people comprehend what works best for their mental prosperity.

The Application Process

While I was looking for internships on online platforms like LinkedIn and Internshala, I came to know about my MindHug through one of my friends. The applicants were required to submit an internship assignment where we were told to create a basic mobile application that used firebase in the backend.

After this round, the shortlisted candidates had to go through an interview process with the founder of the organization. The interview mainly focused on interpersonal skills and I was also asked about some of the projects I had made during my college semesters.

Finally, I was able to clear all rounds and got an internship opportunity for a period of 3 months to work as a Technology Intern at MindHug.

Internship Experience and Work Culture at MindHug

The internship commenced on 11th May 2020. On the first day, all the interns were given an introductory session where we were told about the culture of the company and how is a normal working day at the company. Initially, we were given some time to analyze and understand the already existing code base and fix any bugs we found. After a week when all the interns were ready to work, we were assigned tasks every week. We followed the Agile methodology of software development. A scrum was held every day where we discussed all the tasks we had accomplished on that day. Everyone at MindHug was friendly and accepting. Nobody made us feel like interns. Everyone was treated equally and our opinions were considered vital while deciding important things.

What did I learn while working for MindHug?

The internship at MindHug was an enriching experience for me. This was the first time I worked in a real-world industry environment which taught me many things about the functioning of the industry. I was able to enhance my technical skills and learn new things inside my domain. Besides learning about technical stuff, I was also able to gain some knowledge about the business aspect of the organization. We were regularly asked to express our opinions which made us think and helped us widen our imagination. All in all, it was a great learning experience for me.

The Wonderful Summer Came to an End

Like all the good things, this internship also came to an end. It was a really nice experience for me where I was able to enhance my skills and knowledge. Besides making good professional connections, I also made good friends while working at MindHug.

At last, I would like to thank Chitraj Singh (CEO and Founder) and my mentor Finbarrs Oketunji (CTO and Co-Founder), for giving me this wonderful opportunity and guide me throughout my journey at MindHug. 😊😊
